tracy morgan portrait

what happens when you take this and this?

the perfect gift for your new brother-in-law, that's what!

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

of course though, there is a story behind this {but then again, you could probably tell that from g's face!}

it all started about two/ two and a half years ago. when i visited g at his house in chapel hill, i noticed this terribly empty hallway and told him he needed a big painting. his answer was that he would only hang some art on the wall if, and only if, i painted him a portrait of his favorite man on earth - tracy morgan.

so. . . two [plus] years later, i finally got around to it.

i painted primarily with acrylics, a little guache, and a little prismacolor pencil [white, black, and pink colors used] on heavy watercolor paper.

never in all my years have i seen someone open a gift with such enthusiasm/joy. i still think g cried a little.

i'm afraid i now have a lot to live up to when it comes to christmas gifts.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

hope you had an equally merry christmas friends!

p.s. i'm always up for a challenge and if you know of someone who might need a little portrait/picture of something special, just let me know. . . commissions are always welcomed!

paint book

after a long painting session, i always end up with leftover paint. i typically try to save it all in a plastic palatte that can be frozen, but i recently have been using the remaining paint to paint thumbnail pictures.

the last image shows my plans for paintings to come and paintings to finish {soon!}.

recent work

some of these are still works in progress, but i have made up my mind to finish these before i leave in january!

also, i have plans for several new paintings. i spent a good amount of money on brand new {massive} canvases and justified my purchases because my teachers always said i had to work bigger to get any better {see pic no. 2}.

painting in hyde park

every summer abroad i make sure i pack a handful of my favorite brushes, pencils, and my watercolor palette.

i spent a day in hyde park this summer and found the most perfect little place to stop and paint near the diana princess of wales memorial.

this is love

Of course these people are genius; they're beautiful, they love life, AND they live in Hawaii! They made this decoration out of different tree branches.

the portfolio {revealed}

Here's a sample for you. Although this seems simple and straightforward, this portfolio was surprisingly time consuming. Now that it is all over, I can say that I enjoyed the process {especially sorting through stacks of old work under beds, in closets, etc.} and look forward to one day creating a real and much more impressive selection of my work.

Who knows what my life will look like a few years from now!
